Communities In Schools of Northwest Michigan offers an array of programs for students and families.

I-CAN College Access Network

With resources and supports, CIS of Northwest Michigan helps families and students navigate the maze of college, financial aid, scholarships, applications, and admissions.  CIS of Northwest Michigan coordinates college field trips, financial aid workshops, and college week.  CIS of Northwest Michigan also encourages and prepares students and families to actively pursue post-secondary career exploration.  CIS of Northwest Michigan works with students on career development and readiness and coordinates job shadowing day and career week.

Mentoring
The Communities In Schools sponsored Mentoring Program is a one-to-one school-based program that matches adult and peer volunteers with students. Mentors meet with their students for one hour a week. During this time together they share in a variety of activities helping them form a bond.  Mentor Flyer 2016

Communities In Schools After-School Program
A 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant to provide after school and summer activities for students  K-12 needing academic assistance. Activities may include academic enrichment; youth development; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM); recreation; and art/music.

Tutoring/Academic Interventions
CIS of Northwest Michigan concentrates heavily on providing tutorial, remedial, and learning support programs. CIS partners with the Mancelona Elementary school All Star Reading and Rock Star Math initiatives for intervention services provided to students in small group settings and based on individual needs. CIS partners with the Mancelona High School to provide web based courses for students to recover credit in core classes.
